The modern day version of the Tequila Sunrise was created by two bartenders called Bobby Lozoff and Billy Rice in the early 1970s while working at the Trident Restaurant & Bar in Sausalito, California. Although, variations on the Tequila Sunrise recipe date back to the 1930’s.
Fun fact – Mick Jagger had a Tequila Sunrise back in 1972, at a private party at the Trident Restaurant, at the start of the Rolling Stones’ 1972 tour of America. He enjoyed it so much he started drinking them all across America for the rest of their tour!
