It was thought the Hot Toddy was invited in the 18th-century by Scottish doctors as a medication however, the drink was invented to disguise the flavour of raw Scotch! Nevertheless, it’s a perfect drink to warm you up on a cold winters day.

It’s a simple and affordable drink which only requires a handful of household items. It’s a perfect slow sippers drink, or for a night caps. If you prefer, you can make your hot toddy with dark rum or brandy.

Coughs and colds? Hot Toddies are reported to help reduce cold symptoms, although you really don’t want to overdo it on the whisky! Your body needs to heal, and the simple combination of warm water, honey and lemon combined can work wonders.

Ingredients

  • 1 x shot whisky
  • 3 tsp honey
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 lemon , half juiced and half sliced
  • Boiling water

Hot Toddy Recipe

  1. Whisk the whisky and honey together in a heatproof glasses and top up with boiling water.
  2. Add a splash of lemon juice to taste. Garnish with a slice of lemon and a cinnamon stick.
  3. Sip and enjoy!
