If you like a Margarita but want something a bit more “grit” and fuller of character, the Mezcalita is for you. While a standard Marg is all about bright, zesty sunshine, a Mezcalita is its moodier, more sophisticated cousin.
The secret is the Mezcal. Unlike Tequila, the agave for Mezcal is roasted in underground pits, giving it a beautiful campfire-smoke quality. When you pair that with tart lime and the earthy sweetness of agave nectar, you get a drink that feels a lot more grown-up.

FAQs
Where can I buy Mezcal?
It used to be a specialist find, but you can now pick up decent bottles in Waitrose, M&S, Sainsbury’s or online shops like The Bottle Club.
What if I don’t have agave nectar?
You can use honey or sugar syrup instead, but agave nectar has a specific earthy taste that really complements the smoke of the Mezcal. If you do use honey, thin it out with a little warm water first so it doesn’t seize up when it hits the cold ice.
