The Bramble Cocktail is a cocktail menu classic. The Bramble was created in the mid 1980’s by bartender Dick Bradsell at Fred’s Club in Soho, London. He created the cocktail as he wanted to invent a drink that tasted British and he did that by using blackberries, the staple of any British hedgerow. This drink is one to make when the hedgerows are bursting with ripe fruit as you can then use fresh blackberries.
Note: this recipe includes Sugar Syrup. You can check out our simple How To Make Sugar Syrup recipe to make it from scratch.
Ingredients
- 2 shots x Gin (We used Sipsmith’s London Dry Gin)
- 1 shot x Creme De Mure (Alternatively you can just crush some fresh blackberries, which is what we did!)
- Lemon Juice x 1 shot
- 1 shot x Sugar Syrup
- Blackberries & Slice of Lemon to garnish
Bramble Cocktail Recipe
- If you are making the Bramble with fresh blackberries, then start by muddling a few blackberries in a cocktail shaker, then put to one side. If you are using Creme De Mure then start on Step 2.
- Shake the gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup in a cocktail shaker with a good handful of ice, until the outside of the shaker turns cold.
- Strain the mixture into a rocks glass full of crushed ice.
- Drizzle the Creme De Mure or the crushed blackberries juices over the top of the ice so it ‘bleeds’ into the drink.
- Garnish with some blackberries and a slice of lemon on the top.
- Sip and Enjoy!
